Authentic performances. Responsive communication. Broadcast-ready audio.
The Man Behind the Murr
Welcome - I'm glad you're here.

I'm John Murray - though many people know me as "The MurrMan." If you've found your way here, you've probably already heard my work. Here's a little about the person behind the microphone.

It goes way deeper than "people tell me I have a good voice."

Communication has always come naturally to me. Whether behind a microphone, in front of a camera, or across a conference table, I've always loved connecting with people through words.
When you have tons to say, you get a lot more practice at it than your average Joe. And so when I started doing my high school's daily announcements, it was the perfect match.

Those high school roots led me to choose Journalism as my degree - which led to tons of news and sports broadcasting experience, including work heard on NPR and ESPN affiliates. Then there was reporting and producing, and engineering and podcasting, and interviews with Governors and local business owners alike, and enough awards to fill a modest trophy case. From there grew a desire for something more.

Years in sales and marketing taught me how to communicate professionally, understand client goals, meet deadlines, and deliver a polished experience - skills that now shape every voiceover project I take on.
Then came the booth, the equipment, incredible mentors like J. Michael Collins and Anne Ganguzza, countless hours of coaching, and the endless pursuit of becoming better. It all culminated in my pride and joy: MurrMan Voiceover - where I help brands, businesses, and storytellers give their visions a voice.

How'd I come up with the name? That answer is reserved for clients only ;)
Why Voiceover?
Every script has a purpose. Sometimes it's to inspire. Sometimes it's to educate. Sometimes it's to entertain. And sometimes it's simply to help someone make a decision. I love taking words on a page and turning them into something that feels genuine, memorable, and impactful.
There are millions of brands, organizations, and stories that deserve to be heard. How? That's where I love coming in.

At the end of the day, I believe great voiceover isn't just about sounding good - it's about making your job easier. Whether you're producing a national commercial, a corporate training course, a political campaign, or a documentary, my goal is simple: deliver a performance that serves your vision and a client experience that makes you want to work together again.

When I'm Not Behind the Microphone

Drums
I’ve played drums for more than 15 years, including professionally throughout my teens and early twenties. One highlight was touring with the School of Rock AllStars. I can play most genres, but rock will always be my favorite.
Sports and Travel
Growing up, I played baseball for a decade before trading my glove for drumsticks. I enjoy golf too - but nothing compares to my love of Chicago sports, especially the Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks, and Cubs.

My dad taught me that sports are about far more than wins and losses - they’re about loyalty, resilience, and believing that anything is possible, yes, even Cubs championships.
I have my mom to thank for my love of travel. I’ve always been a bucket-list person - national parks, overseas countries, golf courses, you get the idea. Right now, I’m working on visiting all 30 MLB ballparks, combining my dad’s love of sports with my mom’s love of travel. 18 down, 12 to go - and Wrigley is still my favorite.

My Purpose
Behind every career is someone who believes in it. Mine is my wife. Her unwavering support, encouragement, and belief in me have shaped both the person I am and the business I’m building. I’m incredibly grateful to share this journey with her.
